Le Neuvième Art
Lyon, France
★★ · Classic Cuisine · ~200 € / pers. · Lyon, France
Eugénie Brazier (1895-1977), an exceptional chef who pioneered lyonnaise cuisine, was the first person to obtain six stars, three each in two different restaurants. It is in her Lyon establishment on rue Royale that Mathieu Viannay rolls out his version of the Brazier "myth". In a classy hybrid decor, 1930s stained glass windows and mouldings are blended with Saarinen Tulip chairs (a bold design move!) as the chef pays a vibrant tribute to past iconic dishes (artichoke and foie gras, Bresse chicken with truffles, crispy pike bread), infusing them with his talent and novel ideas. Be sure to try the lunch menu, which is excellent value for money. When it comes to desserts, the mind-blowing Grand Marnier soufflé, a house specialty, is available in different versions depending on the season or the chef’s whims.
