Hidden among the lanes of the historic centre, this small restaurant wins over its guests through substance rather than spectacle. The tables are distributed along an evocative narrow alleyway, while inside a dining room framed by ancient stone arches preserves all the character of the historic building. The atmosphere and service maintain a simple and informal character, leaving the dishes to capture the attention. Chef-patron Massimiliano Vasta presents a cuisine that is essential and rigorous, founded on the absolute quality of the raw material and on preparations that bring out its identity without unnecessary artifice. Emblematic is the beef antipasto, enhanced by a grating of salted egg yolk, as are the fish dishes, in which freshness and precision of execution prevail over any pursuit of special effects. The wine list – centred primarily on Sicily yet enriched by interesting forays into Slovenia, Austria, Germany and France – offers labels of excellent quality at fair prices, with a selection also available by the glass.
