Located in the heart of an Oxfordshire market town, this is the kind of neighbourhood bistro that makes all the stresses and strains of life fade away. The homely interior has the welcoming feel of a local hub, with guests arriving from breakfast until dinner, sometimes with their dogs by their side. The cooking is understatedly delicious, in classically based dishes such as duck breast with duck fat potato terrine, glazed carrots and prunes. For dessert, it’s hard to look past the top-drawer lemon posset. The engaging service balances professionalism and personality perfectly.
