Since 1981, Taverna Rovita has been a staple of Marateo’s restaurant scene. Just a stone’s throw from the main square of the old town, this charming venue retains a picturesque 18th-century kitchen and rooms adorned with traditional Vietri ceramics. The menu passionately showcases the Lucanian region, highlighting its signature produce and recipes, such as the delicious Lucanian panata: a thin slice of lamb coated in a mixture of dry breadcrumbs, pecorino cheese, parsley and garlic, then baked in the oven. To round off the experience, there is an extensive and carefully curated wine list, the result of Mariastella’s expertise and passion, with a particular focus on small-scale Italian and international producers. For a special occasion, small groups can dine in the cosy cellar dining room, surrounded by historic bottles and prized collectable wines.
