A series of hairpin bends leads up to Marina del Cantone, a picturesque bay on the Sorrento Peninsula, framed by crystal-clear waters and the silhouette of the Tre Pizzi. This is where the Taverna del Capitano is located, a long-established local restaurant offering two different dining experiences. On the lower floor, in the areas dedicated to Casa Caputo, you’ll find a more traditional and unpretentious cuisine, while the gourmet restaurant is situated on the building’s rooftop, offering a splendid view of the beach and the sea, accompanied by the constant sound of the waves in the background. In the open-plan kitchen, Matteo Caputo, supported by his father Alfonso’s expertise, showcases locally caught fish through a menu that is distinctly Mediterranean and true to its roots, with the occasional foray into the world of meat. You can tailor your experience by choosing from a selection of tasting menus – including one dedicated to lobster – or by selecting from a comprehensive menu that reflects the restaurant’s philosophy. The wine list is also of an excellent standard – extensive and well-organised – while in the dining room, the family’s new generation of women is helping to revitalise a tradition of hospitality that is one of the restaurant’s key strengths.
