The original Simpson’s in the Strand dates back nearly 200 years and none of its historical character and charm have been lost in this new incarnation from celebrated restaurateur Jeremy King. Dine upstairs in the lighter, slightly less formal Romano’s or head straight to The Grand Divan with its rich wood-panelled walls and gleaming carving trolleys. The menu is a treasure trove of British throwbacks, all executed with exemplary skill and care. Start with deep-fried scampi or a proper prawn cocktail, then delight in the playful ‘tongue in cheek’ or the pie of the day.
