Oostergoo is the ideal base from which to explore the picturesque village of Grou and, beyond that, the wider Friesland region. This long-established hotel and restaurant enjoys a magnificent waterfront setting, complete with its own private jetty and a terrace that overlooks the marina and is open throughout the day. Inside, a large bar, bistro chairs and a lively yet relaxed atmosphere create a wonderfully cosy, convivial feel. The menu lets the ingredients take centre stage through carefully crafted dishes that allow their natural character to shine. Take the smoked eel – a local speciality – soft and beautifully fatty, served with toasted brioche spread with dill mayonnaise, crisp apple and mostarda. If you opt for the steak tartare, it's prepared tableside in time-honoured fashion. The lunchtime menu is a little simpler, but the commitment to quality never wavers.
