This handsome, Grade II-listed Bath stone pub dates back to the 16th century and was resurrected by a community village campaign after plans to turn it into residential property. The refurbishment has been substantial, with interiors that ooze character thanks to flagged floors, rustic roof timbers and a cosy woodburner for chilly winter nights. The unfussy, well-executed cooking delivers bold flavours in the likes of grilled plaice with lemon butter sauce, cockles and crayfish. Look out for regular events including DJ nights and supper clubs.
