At the foot of the old town of Ilok, the elegant Hotel Dunav (the Croatian word for the Danube) houses a bright dining room whose principal asset is the magnificent view over the river. From the summer terrace or through the generous picture windows, one may gaze upon the Danube while savouring dishes of local tradition reinterpreted in a modern key, with particular attention given to freshwater fish. To conclude, those with a sweet tooth may choose between taške, small pastry parcels filled with jam, or šnenokle, the Croatian version of the île flottante.
